It can be an almost heart-stopping to walk downstairs one morning after a heavy rainfall and find a wet basement or flooding. Dark stains on concrete can also be tell-tale signs of previous water seepage. Any water in a basement is bad news - whether a plumbing leak, foundational crack or moisture. It means there are issues with the structural integrity of the foundation, and it needs to be addressed before the issue gets worse. The best basement waterproofing repair is the repair done from outside, but at some cases waterproofing may be done from inside as well.

Wet basement leaks are usually caused by poor construction. The problem with concrete is that is not waterproof. Even if no cracks are visible, concrete will let moisture through. If your basement is unfinished and you touch your concrete walls and feel any moisture, it means that water is getting through. If your basement is finished and you see signs of water damage on the drywall, you have a wet basement. An improperly installed weeping tile system or basic outside wall sealing may be the culprit.

Moisture can also come up through the concrete floor from underground water tables. Water tables exist underground all throughout the world, and by code a basement floor only needs to be three feet above a water table - creating trouble in heavy precipitation seasons. A basement floor that is six feet below ground will have a constant temperature year round of 60-70°F. So in summer when the air above it is warmer, this also creates moisture - also leaving you with a wet basement. Basement waterproofing is the solution for all of these issues.
